e-KYC Deadline Extended for Telangana Ration Cardholders

The Telangana government has set the deadline for completing the ration card e-KYC process as 31 January 2025. Beneficiaries must visit their nearest ration shops for biometric verification and Aadhaar linking between 16 January 2025 and 31 January 2025.

The Telangana government will begin issuing new ration cards on 26 January 2025, with a verification process scheduled between 16 and 20 January 2025. Data entry for the new cards will commence on 21 January 2025. Families migrating to Hyderabad will also be eligible for the ration cards, ensuring that no one is left out of this essential welfare initiative.

How to Get a New Ration Card in Telangana?

Applications for new ration cards are being accepted by the state; people can submit them at specified centres along with Praja Palana forms. For new ration cards, there is no specific form to fill out; information can be given on regular paper.

Income certifications are not required for new ration cards, despite previous rumours to the contrary. Current holders of ration cards must finish e-KYC, and new applications can be filed at Telangana's Praja Palana centres.

Contrary to earlier rumors, there is no requirement for income certificates for obtaining new ration cards. Existing ration cardholders are required to complete e-KYC, while individuals seeking new ration cards can submit application forms at Praja Palana centers in Telangana.

However, the residents of Telangana will have to apply for a new ration card under Praja Palana Scheme by 16 January 2025.

Types of Telangana Ration Cards

In Telangana, there are three major types of ration cards given to people. They are:

Antyodaya Anna Yojana Cards

  1. Elderly widows or disabled individuals aged 60 years and above who head their households can avail of this card.
  2. Individuals such as landless agricultural labourers, rural artisans, craftsmen, marginal farmers, rickshaw pullers, carpenters, blacksmiths, etc., can also get this card.
  3. Primitive tribal households are allowed to avail of this card.

Antyodaya Food Security Cards (AFSC)

  1. Households with an annual family income of less than Rs.1.5 lakh and Rs.2 lakh, in rural areas and urban areas, respectively, can get this card. People with a land area of less than 3.50 acres for wetland and less than 7.50 acres for dry land can also get this card.

 Food Security Cards (FSC)

  1. Families with a stable income that does not fall into any of the categories mentioned above are eligible to receive Food Security Cards (FSC).

Eligibility Criteria for Telangana Ration Card

The eligibility criteria to apply for any of these ration cards are as follows:

  • The applicant must be a resident of Telangana.
  • He or she must not already hold a Telangana Good Security (FSC) or Ration card.
  • The applicant should belong to a poor or economically weaker section of society.

To apply for a ration card in Telangana, the procedure involved is partially online and offline as well. The process of downloading the ration card must be done from the official website. Once done, the submission of the application form along with the required documents must be done at a MeeSeva centre.

For the application form, citizens can visit the nearest MeeSeva centre and avail the form or download the form online as well.

To download the application form online, here are the steps to be followed:

  • Visit the MeeSeva portal.
  • Click on the option 'Download' from the list of options on the taskbar.
  • From the dropdown list, click on the option of Application Forms.
  • Select the option of 'Civil Supplies' from the list.
  • Once done, select 'Application for a new Food Security Card' from the list of options given.
  • The moment you click on the application, it will automatically get downloaded on your mobile or computer system.
  • Print the application form once downloaded.
  • The form consists of a number of sections which need to be filled out such as primary details including the name of the applicant, gender, age, father's name, mobile number, etc. Other sections include the qualification details, region, district, total income of the family and the number of members in the family, etc.
  • After the application form has been filled, the applicant must attach the mentioned list of documents required. Once done, the applicant must submit the form, documents along with a fee to the nearest MeeSeva centre.

Recent Updates on Telangana Ration Card System

Telangana Government to Launch New Ration Card Process on 26 January 2025

The Telangana government will begin issuing new ration cards starting 26 January 2025, announced State Transport and Backward Classes Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on 12 January 2025. Beneficiaries will be identified through a field-level verification process conducted between 16 January 2025 and 20 January 2025, with data entry set to begin on 21 January 2025.

The minister assured that families migrating to Hyderabad from districts would also be eligible for ration cards. On 26 January, the Telangana government will roll out several welfare initiatives, including the Indiramma Housing Scheme, which prioritises families owning land in Hyderabad to help them construct homes, while completed double-bedroom houses from the previous administration will be allocated through a draw of lots.

Additionally, under the Rythu Bharosa program, farmers will receive financial aid of Rs. 12,000 per acre, and the Indiramma Atmiya Bharosa scheme will provide annual support of Rs. 12,000 to landless poor labourer families. Lists of eligible beneficiaries for ration cards and welfare schemes will be displayed in Gram Sabhas. Under the first phase of the Indiramma Housing Scheme, 3,500 houses per Assembly constituency have been sanctioned, prioritising the poorest of the poor. With 18.32 lakh beneficiaries identified via the Indiramma app, the state aims to ensure housing for all homeless families.
