What is a Malaysia Visa?

A Malaysia Visa is an official document that permits foreign nationals to enter Malaysia for specific purposes such as tourism, business, work, or study, depending on their eligibility and the visa type. As per the latest guidelines, you can visit Malaysia until 31 December 2026 without any visa for 30 days. To travel without visa, an individual must complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC).

Types of Malaysia Visa

There are three types of Visas that can be availed by Indians when they visit Malaysia. They are mentioned below:

Documents Required for a Malaysia Visa

Visa Application Process

You can apply for Malaysia visa in two ways. One is through Malaysian Representative Office and the other by applying e-Visa. Listed below are the steps to apply via the offline process:  

  1. Before you apply, please make sure that you know your reason for the visit to Malaysia.
  2. Fill out the application and attach a recent passport-sized photo to it. The form is available for download on the Malaysian Visa official website.   
  3. The photos that you attach to the application form must be as per the specifications.
  4. All the supporting documents must be attached with the application form. In case your application form is incomplete, it will not be accepted.
  5. Submit the application form at the application centers in New Delhi, Mumbai, or Chennai.
  6. Your application status can be tracked online.
  7. You may collect the passport from the VFS center or wait for it to get delivered at your doorstep via courier service.

Malaysia e-Visa Application Process

An e-Visa is an electronic visa by which you can travel for a short period of time. You do not need to visit an embassy as you can easily apply for it through the online process. Given below is the step-by-step guide on how you can apply for e-Visa: 

Step 1: Firstly, visit the official website of Malaysia Electronic Visa Facilitation & Services  

Step 2: Create your account and fill in the application form  

Step 3: After filling in the form accurately, you need to upload all the required documents   

Step 4: Pay the fees of RM105 which is equal to approximately Rs.2,023 (rates can be changed due to fluctuations in the market)  

Step 5: Once you complete the entire process, your e-Visa will be processed within two working days.   

Step 6: You will get your e-visa via e-mail in A4 size which you need to print out for future reference.

Procedure for Passport Collection

There are two ways in which you can collect your passport. You can either collect it in person or send a representative to collect it on your behalf. The following documents must be there with you if you go in person to collect your passport:

  1. Acknowledgement slips (original) provided when you deposited your application form at the center. 
  2. Your National ID proof or any other ID card that has your photograph on it. 
  3. A photocopy of your identity card. 

If you choose a representative to pick up your passport, that person must have the following paperwork with them:

  3. A photocopy of your identity card. 
  4. An authorization letter signed by you allowing your representative to collect the passport on your behalf.

Tracking Malaysian Visa Application Online

If you applied for a Malaysian visa at the VFS Application Centre, you can simply check the status of your application online. The reference number and your birthdate are all that are required. To check the status of your application, enter the captcha code and click "Submit." If you believe you entered incorrect data, you can use the "Reset" button.
