How to Apply for a Student Visa
Student visa application may vary from country to country. You need to follow certain steps while applying for a student visa. So, before you apply, read the instructions provided by the embassy of your destination country where you intend to apply. You can apply for a student visa both online and offline. Certain countries may accept offline applications for student visa. In that case, you need to download the application form and fill it with all required information and send to the consulate of your destination country.

If you are an Indian student and want to pursue studies in USA, you need to first apply to Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) certified schools and get approved by them.
Then, you need to complete the visa application form known as the DS 160 needs to be completed online.
After successfully completing the online form, you will receive an application ID number and password. It will help you access the confirmation page of the DS-160.
Once your visa type is decided and you complete the DS-160 form, pay the visa fees. Normally, an Indian student needs to pay Rs. 10880/- for F1, M1 and J1 visa types. However, this amount is subject to change.
Once the visa application fees is paid and you fulfill all US student visa requirements, you are ready to schedule your visa interview appointment. You need to book two appointments - one for the Visa Application Center (VAC) and the other for the visa interview at the particular Embassy.

Indian Government introduced special category visas for foreign students
The e-student visa and the e-student-x visa, introduced by the Ministry of Home Affairs to streamline the admission process for international students pursuing education in Indian institutions. These initiatives are part of the Ministry of Education's 'Study in India' (SII) program, which links global students to over 600 partner institutions offering more than 8,000 courses.
To apply, students must register on the SII portal, obtain an admission offer from a listed institute, and use their unique SII ID to verify and track their visa application on the Indian visa website. The e-student visa allows enrolment in undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and certificate programs, with a validity of up to five years and the option to extend within India. Dependents of e-student visa holders can apply for the e-student-x visa. Entry through designated immigration points and academic opportunities across diverse disciplines like engineering, arts, and Yoga are permitted by both these visa variants.
Fast-track visa program ended by Canada
Canada has immediately ended the Student Direct Stream (SDS) program, which was widely used by international students, including many from India, for faster study visa processing. Under SDS, applications were processed faster, and approval rates were higher. With the program's cancellation, processing times for student visas are expected to increase.
