If you retired before January 1, 2016, the 7th Pay Commission impacts not only your salary but also your pension. To determine your pension, you can use a Pension Calculator.

The Commission has recommended pension fixation for civil employees, including Central Armed Police Forces personnel, who retired prior to January 1, 2016. The Commission has provided two pension fixation formulations, with illustrations, one for those who retired prior to 2016 and the other for those who retired prior to 2006.

The initial formulation of pension fixation may take some time as each pensioner's records must be verified to determine the number of times, they have earned increments in the retiring levels.

FAQs on 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th Pay Scale Chart

  • Who is eligible for pension fixation in Central Government?

All Central Government employees, including Central Armed Police Forces personnel, whose retirement date was prior to 1 January 2016, are eligible for pension fixation.

  • What is the basis for fixing the pension?

The pension will be fixed based on the grade pay and pay band at the time of retirement of the personnel.

  • How is the notional pay of the retiree determined?

The notional pay of a retiree is calculated by adding a number of increments earned by the employee at a particular level while serving. The increments are added at the rate of 3%. The revised pension of the employee will be 50% of the total amount post the increment.

  • What is the basic pension fixed under the 6th Central Pay Commission?

The basic pension fixed under the 6th Central Pay Commission is Rs.39,500.

  • Does the Pay Commission affect the pension?

Yes, the Central Pay Commission has oversight over the pension and family pension.

  • How does the 7th CPC affect pensioners?

For retirees who took their pension before 2016, the 7th Pay commission's report recommended two different pension fixations.

  • What is the primary method of calculating a pension?

The first suggestion, known as the Increment method, was advised by the 7th Pay Commission. The increment earned in the most recent post is the basis for the pension revision.

  • What is the second way to calculate pensions?

The Fitment method is the name of the second calculation procedure for pension. A new pension amount will be calculated by multiplying the basic pension amount established at the time of the sixth pay commission by 2.57.
