IBPS PO Eligibilty 2025

The Institute of Banking Personnel Section (IBPS) conducts exams every year in order to recruit candidates for banking jobs. The autonomous body recruits for clerical cadre, probationary officers and specialist officers.

The eligibility criteria for IBPS PO exams every year remains the same. As for the  previous years. The eligibility criteria for the exam are based on various factors like the candidate’s nationality, age, and educational qualifications. Candidates belonging to reserved categories may need to fulfil additional criteria.

IBPS PO Nationality criteria:

The following are the required nationality criteria for IBPS PO exams:

A candidate must either be 

  1. A Citizen of India or
  2. A Subject of Nepal/Bhutan or
  3. A Tibetan refugee who came to India prior to 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in the country
  4. A Person of Indian Origin (PIO) who migrated from countries like Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Burma, Kenya, United Republic of Tanzania, Uganda, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Malawi, Zaire, and Zambia with the intention of permanently settling in the country.

IBPS PO Educational Qualification:

You must have a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognised university or any equivalent qualification recognised by the central government to apply for the IBPS PO exam. The following are some things to keep in mind when it comes to educational qualification criteria:

  1. The qualifying exam must be passed on or before August 2024
  2. The date mentioned on the marksheet will be considered as the official date of passing the qualifying exam.
  3. A copy of the marksheet or passing certificate needs to be submitted at the time of interview to prove that the exam was cleared before the cut-off date.
  4. If the result is posted only on the university’s official website or a web-based certificate is provided, you will need to get the certificate issued in original and ensure that it is signed by the appropriate authority of the University indicating the date of passing.
  5. You have to clearly specify the obtained percentage in the qualifying exam when submitting the online application.
  6. If your university awards CGPA or OGPA, you will need to convert the same into percentage. This shall be applicable for those Universities as well where class or grade is awarded on the basis of marks obtained in the honors subject.
  7. The fraction of percentage arrived at will not be ignored. For example, 59.99% will not be rounded off to 60%. It shall be considered as less than 60%.
  8. Applicants in the final year/ final semester cannot apply for the exam

IBPS PO Age criteria:

Any candidate who is willing to apply for the IBPS PO exam must be between 20 and 30 years of age as of 1 August 2024. Candidates belonging to reserved categories can avail age relaxation. The table listed below highlight the age relaxation depending on the category:

Note:

  1. Candidates of SC/ST and OBC category can apply for two accumulative exemptions 
  1. ST Candidates with a physical disability are given a maximum of 15 years relaxation for the upper age limit. No other exemptions are allowed 
  1. Candidates are required to provide a certificate confirming their exemption category at the time of the interview 
  1. IBPS age limit relaxation is given to the candidates that are specified in the official notification 
  1. Changes to the eligible age limit relaxation can be made as per IBPS 

IBPS PO Eligibility for EWS Category:

Candidates in the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category come from families with a gross annual family income of less than Rs.8 lakhs and are not covered by existing reservations for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Schedule Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs). IBPS reports a 10% reservation in the vacancies for them. The following criteria, as well as the above-mentioned criteria, must be met in order to get the benefit under this category:

  1. The property/properties owned by the family in different locations would be clubbed while applying the property holding test to determine EWS status.
  2. The term ‘family’ will include the person who seeks benefit of reservation, his/her parents and siblings below the age of 18 years. His/her spouse and children below the age of 18 years will also be considered.
  3. An Income and Asset certificate issued by a competent authority in the prescribed format must be submitted at the time of document verification and interview to avail the benefit of EWS reservation.
  4. The annual family income will include revenue from all sources such as salary, agriculture, business, profession etc. and it shall be the income from the financial year previous to the application year.

Note:

A family that has possession of any of the listed below assets irrespective of the annual family income will not be considered as belonging from the EWS category:

  1. Residential plot of 200 square yards and above in areas other than the notified municipalities.
  2. Residential plot of 100 square yards and above in notified municipalities.
  3. Residential flat of 1000 square feet and above.
  4. Five acres of agricultural land and above.

When the candidate is applying for the property holding test to check EWS status, they must know that the property should be owned in other locations by a specific “Family” is clubbed. Apart from this, the candidates who are willing to avail the benefits of the EWS category for the IBPS PO exam need to show an Income and Asset Certificate during the document verification as well as face to face interview round provided by a Competent Authority in the given format. The term “Family” comprises the parents, spouse, children, and siblings of the person willing to avail the benefits of EWS reservation.  

IBPS PO Eligibility for PwD Category:

Persons with disabilities (PwD) are entitled for reservation under section 34 of the 'Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016' if they meet the Government of India's criteria. Candidates who fall under the following categories are eligible for reservations under this Act:

  1. Locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy.
  2. Deaf and hard of hearing
  3. Autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability and mental illness
  4. Blindness and low vision
  5. Candidates with benchmark disabilities will be alcated the reserved vacancies as prescribed in the ‘Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016’ and as per vacancies reported to IBPS by the participating banks.

Directives for PwD through Services of Scribe: 

Candidates who have a permanent issue in writing speed or with the minimum disability due to any reason can use their scribe during IBPS PO Examination 2023. However, they need to follow the rules that are mentioned below: 

  1. Candidates who want to avail the scribe services or have the eligibility regarding the same during the examination should apply for the scribe services while registering for IBPS PO exam. 
  2. Scribe should be arranged by the applicants during the examination at their own cost. 
  1. The candidates who are using scribe are eligible to get additional 20 minutes or recommended for the entire hour of the exam. 

Directives for Candidates Having Intellectual Disability: 

Candidates who are over 40% mentally ill, intellectually disabled, autistic, or have learning disability, irrespective of using scribe services will be given additional time of 20 minutes per hour of the examination. 

Directives for Candidates with Cerebral Palsy and Locomotor Disability :

Candidates having at least 40% cerebral palsy and locomotor disability where the writing is impacted that slows down the candidate’s performance will be provided with a compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour or time prescribed by the board. 

Directives for Visually Impaired Candidates:

Candidates who are visually impaired and are suffering from at least 40% disability are allowed to view the content of the question paper and are provided with a compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour. However, the visually impaired candidates who haven’t availed Scribe services are allowed to avail the facility to see the contents of the question paper in a magnifying font.

  • I am awaiting my graduation final year result. Can I apply for the IBPS PO exam?

    As long as the result is declared before the cut-off date mentioned in the official notification, you can apply for the exam.
