SBI Foreign Travel Card Types

At present, SBI offers two foreign travel credit cards, they are:

  1. Single Currency Card: The Single Currency Card is available in eight foreign currencies: US Dollar (USD), Pound Sterling (GBP), Euro (EUR), Canadian Dollar (CAD), Australian Dollar (AUD), Japanese Yen (JPY), Saudi Riyal (SAR), and Singapore Dollar (SGD).
  2. Multicurrency SBFTC: The Multicurrency SBFTC supports nine foreign currencies, including US Dollar (USD), Pound Sterling (GBP), Euro (EUR), Japanese Yen (JPY), Canadian Dollar (CAD), Australian Dollar (AUD), Saudi Riyal (SAR), Singapore Dollar (SGD), and UAE Dirham (AED).

Cardholders can conveniently load multiple available currencies onto a single card, ensuring flexibility for international travel.

Eligibility Criteria for Applicants of SBI Foreign Travel Cards

Listed below are the eligibility criteria for the applicants of State Bank Foreign Travel Card:

  1. Applicant must be a bonafide citizen of India planning to travel abroad except to Bhutan and Nepal.
  2. Corporates are planning to send their employees abroad for official or business purposes (subject to completion of KYC norms).
  3. Sponsors/parents of students travelling abroad for higher studies. The card will be issued in the student's name and will be reloaded up to the allowed ceiling, recommended from time to time.
  4. Expats residing in India (subject to completion of KYC norms).

Documents Required to Apply for SBI Foreign Travel Cards

To procure an SBI Foreign Travel Cards, an applicant will have to submit the following documents:

  1. A duly signed application-cum-agreement form.
  2. A copy of a valid passport.
  3. A copy of a valid PAN card.
  4. Proof of intended foreign travel, such as a visa, ticket, admission confirmation from a foreign university or institute, or any other relevant document.
  5. Proof of residence if the address differs from the one mentioned in the passport. 

How to Apply for SBI Foreign Travel Card

There are two ways to apply for the SBI Travel Card. You can apply for the card either online or offline.

Online Process

Step 2: You will get a reference number.

Step 3: Take a printout of the online application, and with the required KYC documents, you need to visit any SBI branch.

Offline Process

  • What do I do if I forget the PIN of my SBI Foreign Travel card?

    You can call the SBI credit card customer care which is available round the clock and raise a request for new PIN generation.

  • How long does it take to activate the card?

    The card will be ready to use immediately after getting it. However, it is advisable to visit the nearest ATM and change the PIN once the card has been activated.

  • Can the value of the card be reloaded with any authorised branch of SBI?

    Yes, the State Bank Foreign Travel Card can be topped up or reloaded from any branch that is authorized for the purpose. There are more than 550 branches across the country for the same.

  • How will I know which ATMs would accept the State Bank Foreign Travel Card?

    All ATMs that display the VISA/PLUS/VISA Flag/Electron/MasterCard will accept State Bank Foreign Travel Card.

  • Do I need to have an account with the State Bank to purchase the Foreign Travel Card?

    No, you do not need to have an account at State Bank to purchase a State Bank Foreign Travel Card.

  • Is there a fee for obtaining refunds on the balance on the State Bank Foreign Travel Card?

    No, there will be no fee charged if the balance amount is claimed within three months of the card's expiry date. The amount will be refunded after deducting USD 5, GBP 5, Euro 5, CAD 5, AUD 5, Yen 500, SAR 20, or SGD 6 as the bank charges if claim is made after three month of card expiry.
