How to Apply for a Minor PAN Card?

The Government has provided two avenues for those wishing to apply for a PAN Card, with the service available both offline and online.

Online Process to Apply for Minor PAN Card

The procedure for applying for a PAN Card for a minor online is mentioned below:

  1. Step 1 - Visit the Tax Information Network website of Protean eGov Technologies Limited and click on ‘Apply Now’.
  2. Step 2 - Select the appropriate option from the drop-down menu, i.e.  Form 49A or Form 49AA.
  3. Step 3 - After going through the instructions, select the category of the applicant from the drop down list provided and click "Select".
  4. Step 4 - Fill in the details requested in the form that appears onscreen.
  1. Step 5 - Upload the supporting documents as mentioned in the form's guidelines and make the online processing fee payment.
  2. Step 6 - Once the form has been filled in, click on "Submit" after which a reference number will appear onscreen. This can be used to track the status of the application.
  3. Step 7 - The PAN Card will be sent by post to the address mentioned in the form.

Offline Process to Apply for Minor PAN Card

  1. Step 1Download Form 49A (for Indian residents) or Form 49A A(for Indians not residing in India) from the Tax Information Website.
  2. Step 2 - The form is also available at UTIITSL offices and through their agents.
  3. Step 3 - Fill in the relevant details and attach copies of the required documents.
  4. Step 4 - For a minor PAN Card, no photograph is required.
  5. Step 5 - Submit the form and documents to the nearest UTIITSL office along with the processing fee amount.
  6. Step 6 - On verification of the information submitted, the PAN card will be posted to the address mentioned in the form.

There are a number of advantages associated with applying for a PAN Card for a minor, which are listed below:

  1. Step 1 - Visit the official Protean (NSDL) website or the nearest PAN centers.
