    Karnataka issued 8.8 lakh passports in 2024, reflecting a 4% year-on-year increase

    Karnataka saw a significant rise in passport issuance in 2024, with a total of 8.8 lakh passports issued. This marked a four percent increase compared to 2023, when 8.5 lakh passports were issued, resulting in an additional 34,000 passports processed. With summer holidays approaching, demand is expected to surge even further. To meet this growing demand, the Regional Passport Office (RPO) is operating at full capacity. The office manages five Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) across the state, including two in Bengaluru- one on Lalbagh Road and another in Marathahalli. Additionally, 23 post office kendras are assisting with passport applications, ensuring that services remain accessible and efficient. Of the total passports issued, 4.88 lakh were to male applicants, reflecting a 3.2 percent increase from the previous year. Women also saw a rise, with 3.95 lakh passports issued, marking a 4.9 percent increase. However, the number of passports issued to transgender applicants remained unchanged at 10. This highlights the growing demand for passports across the state, with a noticeable increase in both male and female applicants.

    Regional Passport Office in Bengaluru issued 5.18 lakh passports in the last 7 months

    The Bengaluru Regional Passport Office (RPO) has achieved a new milestone by issuing 518,000 passports from January to July this year, according to recent data. This figure represents a substantial increase compared to the 387,000 passports issued during the same period in 2023 and 312,000 in 2022. In 2023, the RPO issued 849,646 passports, and this number is expected to be exceeded in the current year. Regional Passport Officer K. Krishna attributed the increase in passport applications to a rising number of people traveling abroad, especially students.
