Common Services Centre (CSC) 2.0 - Overview, Goals & Services

Introduction

Common Services Centre (CSC) programme is an initiative taken by the Ministry of Electronics and IT and the Government of India. CSCs act as the access points for the delivery of different electronic services to villages across India.  

CSCs are the service delivery points present in the rural India which are positioned as change agents, building rural capabilities and promoting rural entrepreneurship.

CSCs and Digital India 

Digital India is a flagship program introduced by the Indian Government which aims to make India digitally advanced. Common Services Centres enable the following vision areas of this program: 

  1. Digital empowerment of citizens 
  2. Governance and services on demand 
  1. Digital infrastructure as the priority requirement for every citizen. 

Partners 

Given below are the partners of CSC 2.0 Scheme: 

  1. The rural customers avail services from the Village Level Entrepreneur (VLE). 
  2. State Designated Agency (SDA) is responsible for the execution of the tasks present in the CSC Scheme. 
  1. Banks, Central Ministries and other departments are responsible for offering the respective services to the rural citizens.

Services Offered

The aim of CSC Scheme is to offer affordable and high-quality video, voice and other types of content in various types of fields, including health, education, e-governance, entertainment, health, and other services. All the services offered by CSCs in rural areas are web enabled such as certificates, application forms, and utility bill payments. Apart from this, other types of services provided by CSC are: 

  1. Education and Training (Schools, colleges, employment, vocational education, etc.) 
  2. Agricultural services (Agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry, horticulture) 
  1. Banking and Insurance (Micro credit, insurance, loans) 
  2. Health (Health checkups, telemedicines) 
  3. Utility Services (Online bookings, bill payments 
  4. Entertainment services (TV, movies) 

CSC 2.0 Scheme

Launched in 2015, CSC 2.0 Scheme aims to expand the number of CSCs to wide range of Gram Panchayats across the country. It will be consolidating the service delivery via universal technology portal. This will make online services accessible to all the rural citizens in India.

Eligibility Criteria 

Given below are the eligibility criteria to apply for the CSC Scheme: 

  1. The applicant should be a village youth. 
  2. The minimum age limit to apply for this scheme is 18 years of age. 
  3. He or she should be fluent in reading and writing in English and the local language. 
  4. He or she should have basic computer knowledge. 
  5. He or she should have a Permanent Account Number (PAN) and a valid VID.
