A Registration Certificate, motor insurance policy document, and the PUC certificate are the three most important documents that a vehicle should have. The registration number gives important details about a vehicle. The first two letters on the number plate of a vehicle represent the state where the vehicle is registered.

For example; UP for Uttar Pradesh, DL for Delhi, HR for Haryana, and so on. The second part of the number plate is the code assigned to a specific transport authority/registering authority in whose jurisdiction the vehicle is registered. The next 4-digit number on the vehicle number plate is the registration number assigned to a vehicle. The vehicle registration number is always allotted from the range of 0001 to 9999. Once the range is allotted, two additional letters are placed before the registration number and the same range is used again.

Registration of fancy vehicle numbers cannot be done manually and one must do the same online through the official Parivahan website of the Government of India or the official website of UP Transport Department. Process of Fancy Number Registration in Uttar Pradesh

• The available fancy vehicle registration numbers are divided among separate categories with each category having a specific fee.
• Category A: Rs.15000
• Category B: Rs.7500
• Category C: Rs.6000
• Category D: Rs.3000
• A fancy vehicle number can only be registered by a person who has applied for the same and deposited the fee online.
• An applicant must select the RTO office where he/she currently lives or has a place of business. Actual address proof has to be furnished at the time of registration. If the place of residence does not come under the district RTO, the allotted fancy number will be revoked and the fee will be forfeited.
• A special number will be allotted based on a first-come first-serve basis and it is not transferable.
• The number reserved by way of online application and payment of fee will be assigned by the concerned registering authority upon inspection of the vehicle and submission of e-receipt among other vehicle registration related documents.
• If the vehicle is not presented at the RTO for registration within 30 days from the date of reservation, the allotment of the registration number will be cancelled.
• The reservation fee will not be returned and the cancelled registration number will be allotted to another person.
• Precaution should be taken while selecting the type of vehicle on the reservation dashboard.
• A fancy vehicle number can be booked within 7 days of purchase if the vehicle is registered in the district where it has been purchased.
• If the reserved vehicle has to be registered in any other district from where it has been purchased, a fancy number for that vehicle can be reserved within a period of 30 days after the vehicle is purchased. However, it is important to temporarily register the vehicle during the said period.
