Subhas Chandra Bose was born into a wealthy family in Cuttack, Odisha. Netaji was an excellent student who placed second in his matriculation exam and fourth in the Indian Civil Services (ICS) exam. In 1921, he left his lucrative ICS position and returned to India from England to take part in the country's war for independence.

Netaji, who was at first a member of the INC (Indian National Congress), believed that in order to achieve liberation, one must go to war with the British.
