Coal is a valuable fossil fuel and is widely used for electricity generation around the world. It takes millions of years for coal to be formed and that is why it is categorised under non-renewable sources of energy. As of now, it is estimated that we have coal deposits that would last for 300 years, and there would be no fossil fuel after that.

Types of Coal

Coal is ranked based on the amount of heat and pressure that has acted upon it over the years. Mainly, coal is classified into four types: Anthracite, Bituminous, Subbituminous, and Lignite.

Anthracite - This type of coal has the highest amount of carbon content (around 87% to 97%) and is the most mature form of coal deposit. This type of coal is majorly used in the metal industry.

Bituminous - This type of coal has around 45% to 85% of the carbon content. It is estimated that this category of coal is between 100 million to 300 million years old. Bituminous coal is used for cooking and generating electricity. Moreover, it is an important raw material used in the iron and steel industry.

Subbituminous - This type of coal has around 35% to 45% of the carbon content. It is estimated that this category of coal is at least 100 million years old. This coal has lower heating value as compared to bituminous and anthracite coal.

Lignite - This type of coal has around 25% to 35% of the carbon content. Lignite coal is generally used to generate electricity. It is crumbly in nature and has moisture content.

Benefits of Trading Coal in India

Some of the features and benefits of investing in Soy Oil in India are given below

Diversification in investment portfolio - Trading in coal helps you to diversify investments in your portfolio. Doing this will help you organise your assets and lessen the risk involved in various investments.

High Demand - Coal is an important commodity and is the backbone of many industries. Moreover, around 75% of the electricity generated in India is using coal, which makes it a valuable commodity. That is why investing in coal is a profitable option.

Fair price - Coal is always in demand in the market. This helps you fetch a fair price for the commodity and easy liquidity.

Transparent trading - Commodity trading occurs on exchanges. This makes the entire process completely transparent. Neither the sellers nor the buyers can manipulate the coal price. A commodity transaction is carried out only if the trading price offered by both the buyer and seller coincides.

Market Dynamics around the globe - By investing in coal, you gain exposure to the global market dynamics. Global variables such as international demand and supply, weather and geopolitical events affect the price of coal. This gives you the opportunity to benefit from developments in international markets and to diversify your investment mix outside of domestic markets.

Hedge against Inflation - Investing in high demand commodities like coal can potentially give you a hedge against inflation. The price of commodities typically holds their value or at times increases in value during inflation even though the purchasing power decreases. This happens because the demand for necessary products remains constant inspite of inflation.

Speculative Opportunities - Trading in commodity markets, especially those for coal, provides traders and investors with speculative opportunities. Technical analysis of the price chart, trading strategies based on market trends and fundamental variables might profit from price swings in the commodity markets.
