Below mentioned are various cases where the short validity passport is issued -

  1. For Students: When students are obliged to travel overseas to take an international exam, such as the SAT or TOEFL, passports are granted to them. If the situation is urgent and the applicant cannot apply through the standard procedures because it would take too long for the passport to be completed, then a short validity passport is issued. In this situation, the application would be processed under the Tatkaal Scheme, and it would need to be presented together with documentation demonstrating its urgency and a verification certificate in accordance with rules.
  1. Non-Delivery of Passport: The applicant can apply for a Short Validity Passport in the event that their passport is lost in transit, and they are unable to travel with it. Upon fulfilment of specific requirements, the passport would eventually be upgraded to a full-term passport (10-year passport).
  1. Criminal Cases: The applicant might submit an application for a Short Validity Passport if they need to travel abroad yet have a criminal case against them. The court where the matter is now underway must grant formal approval before this passport can be issued, nevertheless. Subject to court approval, the short-validity passport issued in this situation is valid for one year.
  1. Indians Residing Overseas: Indian nationals who are residing abroad and want to travel to India for a little duration can apply for a passport with a short validity. In these circumstances, the passport is typically authorised right away, and it has a one-year expiration date.
